(The Center Square) – Records indicate that only two Shreveport City Council members have received travel reimbursements over the last three years for official city business.

The Center Square filed a public records request for City Council member travel and travel expense reimbursement requests spanning the last three years that were reimbursed with city funds.

According to the records received from James Mason, Shreveport’s assistant city attorney, only two councilmembers have submitted reimbursement requests for travel expenses over the past three years – Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor and Councilman Jim Taliaferro. These reimbursement requests include transportation, lodging and conference costs for city business.

Councilwoman Taylor attended Caddo Parish Day at the Capitol in April and expensed $652.34, of which $208.54 was for lodging, $102 for meals, $30 for registration and $345.80 for vehicle miles.

In October of last year, Taliaferro attended the Keep Louisiana Beautiful State Conference in Baton Rouge. The total amount expensed for his trip was $908.27, which included $265.28 for lodging, $118.83 for meals, $190.83 for registration and $333.68 for vehicle mileage.

These were the only two reimbursements released, and meal receipts were not present in the report.

Both of these reimbursements were expensed through the city’s general fund, which has allocations for City Council travel.
