An estimated 140 service members have been injured since the start of Operation Epic Fury in the nearly 11 days since the joint strikes between the U.S. and Iran began, according to a Pentagon spokesperson.
Sean Parnell, the chief Pentagon spokesman, released a statement Tuesday afternoon confirming reports that up to 150 U.S. service members have been injured during the conflict.
“Since the start of Operation Epic Fury, approximately 140 service members have been wounded over 10 days of sustained attacks. The vast majority of these injuries have been minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty. Eight service members remain listed as severely injured and are receiving the highest level of medical care,” Parnell said.
As of Tuesday, seven U.S. service members have been killed since the operation began, during Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Since the beginning of the conflict Feb. 28, the Iranian regime has targeted several U.S. military bases in the region.
In addition to U.S. military bases being targeted, the Iranian regime has targeted several U.S. embassies and consulates in the Middle East. The embassies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait City, Kuwait, and the U.S. consulate in Dubai, UAE, were all targeted by Iranian drones, while the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, was targeted by Iranian rockets.
Not only have embassies and consulates in the Middle East been targeted, but over the weekend, the U.S. embassy in Oslo, Norway, also sustained minor damage in an explosion, appearing to be a deliberate attack.
On Tuesday, police in Toronto, Canada, were investigating shots fired at the U.S. consulate, with the building reportedly sustaining minor damage and no injuries reported.
