(The Center Square) – Everton Blair won a Georgia runoff election to fill the remaining four months of late U.S. Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., defeating Marcye Scott, David Scott’s daughter.

Results from Tuesday’s runoff election published on the Georgia Secretary of State’s website show that Blair won just shy of 54% of the vote to Marcye Scott’s 46% for the 13th Congressional District post.

David Scott was seeking another term when he died on April 22.

Blair is not a candidate in November’s general election for the post.

State Rep. Jasmine Clark, a Democrat, and Republican Jonathan Chavez will be on the general election ballot in November.

The 13th District covers Rockdale County and portions of Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry and Newton counties.
