Curran calls for transparency on Illinois Prisoner Review Board process

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has still failed to provide transparent accounting of the breakdown in the Illinois Prisoner Review Board process that led to the deadly release of a convicted criminal. That’s according to Illinois Senate Minority Leader John Curran, reacting to Pritzker’s appointments to the PRB. Pritzker announced a new executive director Monday, weeks after two PRB members resigned following the stabbing of a pregnant woman and murder of an 11-year-old child allegedly at the hands of a recent parolee.

House passes bill to drop some meat labels

The Illinois House was unanimous in supporting a measure to remove some required labeling from the package of meat being processed for people like hunters. State Rep. Adam Niemerg’s House Bill 2601 passed Monday and now goes to the Senate. The measure removes the labeling “not inspected” but keeps the labeling “not for sale.”

Highway grant aims to address flooding on I-290

In an effort to address flooding on I-290, Illinois has been awarded $8.6 million from federal tax funds. The grant will be matched with $15 million in state tax funds and $1.2 million from Cook County for a combined $25 million for the project.
