Chicago removes park encampments

On one of the coldest mornings this year, city crews removed tents from an encampment on Chicago’s north side Wednesday.

More than a dozen police officers and several city workers pulled up to Gompers Park at 9 a.m. and used heavy equipment to remove several tents.

The Chicago Park District said in a statement that the city was removing smoke stack components and propane tanks used to heat some illegal structures in the park.

COVID eye health

Researchers have found a link between long COVID and eye health.

A new study from Northwestern Medicine is providing doctors an idea how long COVID affects the body by examining the eyes. Researchers said patients with long COVID experienced a significant reduction in the density of blood vessels in the back of the eye compared to healthy individuals.

Ag education measure advances

Legislation is advancing in Springfield that would allow agriculture courses to qualify for vocational education requirements for high school students.

State Sen. Doris Turner, the bill’s sponsor, said students should be able to use their agricultural studies to fulfill graduation requirements.

The measure advanced out of committee and is headed to the Senate floor for consideration.
