New safety features for MetroLink users

Beginning this week, MetroLink customers at an East St. Louis station will use newly installed security gates to access the station platform. The gates are aimed at enhancing safety by adding security gates and fencing at various stations across the system. Security officers plan to manually operate the gates until a new fare collection system is implemented.

Chicago woman shoots alleged intruder

A woman said she took action Saturday night to protect her children as a man allegedly tried to break into her Chicago home. According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person shot. They found a man, initially believed to be the victim of a shooting, with a gunshot wound to the leg. The woman, who is a Concealed Carry License Holder, told investigators that the man had tried to climb through her child’s window, so she shot him.

Illinois Department of Agriculture embarks on grain tour

To forge relationships and increase export sales of agricultural products, the Illinois Department of Agriculture will host 31 international buyers from nine different countries as part of a four-day tour. Buyers from Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, China and Vietnam will visit Illinois facilities this week. The 2023 Illinois Grain Tour had projected sales of more than $30 million.
