Dolton officials walk out of meeting

A village meeting in Dolton turned into chaos as residents pounded on doors to get in and four village trustees walked out Monday night.

The board was scheduled to address Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s veto of an investigation into her spending of village funds, but the meeting never got to that point.

More than 100 residents showed up to attend the meeting, but only 40 were let inside.

Retired football player passes away

Former NFL and University of Illinois football player Vontae Davis was found dead in his Florida home Monday.

Police in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie said they responded to a medical emergency at Davis’ home, but the 35-year-old was dead when officers arrived. They said no foul play is involved.

The Washington D.C. native signed with the Buffalo Bills for 2018 but abruptly retired during halftime of the season’s second game.

Cahokia Mounds eclipse viewing

State officials are inviting visitors to view the April 8 solar eclipse from Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville.

Although the site is not in the path of totality, a partial solar eclipse will be visible beginning at 12:43 p.m. and continuing for just over two hours.

Cahokia Mounds is the largest pre-Columbian site north of Mexico, covering about 4,000 acres and at least 120 earthen mounds.
