Lightfoot to release findings of investigation into Dolton mayor

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is set to release the findings of her investigation into Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

Lightfoot was hired last year to look into questionable financial dealings with village funds. Among the items under investigation include a controversial trip Henyard made to Las Vegas using taxpayer funds.

Lightfoot released preliminary findings last August that showed Dolton’s general fund has a $3.6 million deficit, down from a surplus of $5.6 million when Henyard took office.

Defense closings resume at Madigan trial

Michael Madigan’s defense team has resumed closing arguments at the former Illinois House speaker’s corruption trial in Chicago. Madigan attorney Dan Collins said juries are the wall between a misguided prosecution and the defendant.

Prosecutors allege that ComEd and AT&T Illinois gave out no-work or little-work jobs and contract work to Madigan allies to get legislation passed that would benefit them in Springfield. The former speaker has pleaded not guilty to 23 corruption-related charges.

Codefendant Michael McClain’s team is scheduled to follow Collins with closing arguments.

Treasurer: Check unclaimed property website

Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs is urging people to check the I-CASH missing money website to see if they have money or other unclaimed property waiting for them to claim.

The state treasurer is legally required to return unclaimed property to its owners or their heirs, no matter how long it takes. The agency has returned more than $2.2 billion in unclaimed property since 2015.
