Migrants arrested after attack
Two migrants are in custody after a 63-year-old man was found unresponsive, bound with duct tape and an extension cord, and later died in Norwood Park.
Police said the suspects stole items from him during their encounter, which may have been a targeted robbery attack. Police said one suspect is from Venezuela and the other from Ecuador. One of the two men was also previously arrested in connection to a child luring case involving two teenage girls.
Discounted spay and neuter services
Pet owners can bring their dogs and cats to participating veterinarians throughout Cook County to receive up to a $40 discount on spay or neuter services in February.
As part of Animal and Rabies Control’s mission to help control the animal population and minimize unwanted litters throughout the county, the department initiates the program each February, which is Spay and Neuter Awareness month.
$60 million awarded to state parks
The Capital Development Board announced more than $60 million in investments to address deferred maintenance projects for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The funding will focus on five areas across Illinois.
The projects aim to address essential repairs, including water and wastewater systems, trail and bridge replacements, and site preservation efforts. State parks, such as Starved Rock and Lake Murphysboro, will see improvements that officials said will provide recreational and educational benefits to the public.
