Tax incentive measure passes House

Legislation aimed at attracting businesses in the clean energy sector by offering millions more in tax incentives has been passed in the Illinois House and is headed to the Senate.

The incentives amount to around $300 million and would include EV makers including hovercrafts and microchip manufacturers. The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity estimates the incentives could generate over $20 billion in new state revenue and create thousands of jobs over the next 30 years.

State nabs two best drive-in spots

Two Illinois drive-ins nabbed the top two spots in a nationwide survey of the best drive-ins.

Over the past month, USA Today asked people to rank drive-ins around the country. Skyview Drive-In in Belleville took number one, and Harvest Moon Drive-In in Gibson City came in second.

There are fewer than 400 drive-ins still operating today according to estimates.

IDOT hosting photo contest

The Illinois Department of Transportation is inviting the public to take part in a photo contest to showcase how transportation is helping connect communities. Through June 7, IDOT will accept original photos that showcase transportation at work in the state. Ideas include biking, walking, highways, waterways and public transit. Three finalists will then be displayed online for a public vote to determine a winner.
