Woman accused of trying to smuggle drugs in Cook County Jail

A woman who allegedly smuggled opioid-soaked papers into the Cook County Jail is the 39th person to smuggle or possess drug papers at the jail this year. Jail officials said Jada Henry was visiting an inmate at the jail when a correctional officer saw something during a hug. The officer alleged they saw Henry slip something into the inmate’s uniform. A search yielded a plastic bag containing paper squares. The papers were sent to the Illinois State Police lab, and testing revealed they contained a synthetic opioid.

Authorities have recovered the body of an Illinois man who went missing while diving around a Lake Michigan shipwreck. 72-year-old Patrick Kelly of Winthrop Harbor had been exploring the wreckage of the S.S. Wisconsin about six miles off the coast when he failed to resurface. His body was located in about 120 feet of water. The S.S. Wisconsin was a steamer that sank in 1929 during a storm.

Judge finds Trump Tower in violation of environmental laws

A Cook County judge has found the Trump Tower in Chicago in violation of state and federal laws over a water intake system used to cool the building that’s killing fish. A lawsuit was filed by the Attorney General’s office in 2018, alleging violation of environmental laws. Judge Thaddeus Wilson wrote that the building “has created and continues to create a public nuisance.” Friends of the Chicago River estimate that thousands of fish have been sucked into the intake system.
