(The Center Square) – Barksdale Air Force Base went into lockdown Friday morning after receiving reports of an active-shooter threat, according to the base.
The Sept. 18 lockdown has since been lifted, and Barksdale officials said there is no current threat to the installation.
“Barksdale emergency personnel responded, the incident has been resolved and there is no threat to the installation at this time,” the base said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Col. Chris Cain, commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing, credited emergency personnel and routine training with the response.
“The safety of Team Barksdale is absolutely paramount. We are proud of the expert response provided by our emergency personnel who were able to quickly resolve the threat,” Cain said. “Routine training is what allows us to respond to situations with confidence and keep our community safe.”
Officials did not immediately say what prompted the report, where on the installation the reported threat originated or whether anyone was detained.
Barksdale said the incident remains under investigation.
The Center Square has contacted the 2nd Bomb Wing Public Affairs Office seeking additional information.
