Days after the midterm elections, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles announced Friday is her last day in the role, with President Donald Trump tapping trusted advisor Stephen Miller to be his next chief of staff.

Wiles, who recently announced she was “cancer-free” after being diagnosed with breast cancer, said that serving the president “has been the honor of a lifetime.”

“I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together, from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First. More than anything, I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will,” the outgoing chief of staff posted on X.

The president took no time naming her successor, Miller, who currently serves as the president’s deputy chief of staff and one of his top advisors. Trump said Miller’s first day as chief of staff would be Monday.

Despite Wiles’ departure, Trump added in his posting announcing Miller’s promotion that she would be moving over to the Trump Political Operation.

He commended her for her service, saying she has done “a great job!”

Wiles made history as the first woman to serve as the White House chief of staff. Before being appointed soon after Trump won the election in 2024, Wiles served as a campaign manager for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

While she established herself in the Florida Republican Party, Wiles has a long political history dating back nearly 50 years, including a stint at the White House during President Ronald Reagan’s administration.
